Where innovation meets progress

OUR HISTORY

Carmacks Construction Ltd., founded in 1974, owes its name to the Gold Rush of 1898. It was during this historic event that George Carmacks, along with Skookum Jim and Tagish (aka Dawson) Charlie, discovered gold in 1896, sparking the Great Klondike Stampede. Inspired by the same pioneering spirit, the company’s founders—Walter Babiy, George Buxton, Harold Irwin, and Alvin Reed—established Carmacks to venture into the civil construction industry. Over the years, these dedicated visionaries have retired, but the company thrives under the Carmacks name, guided by a committed team of long-serving employees.

In March 2012, Carmacks underwent a significant change when it was acquired by Eurovia Canada Inc., a subsidiary of the VINCI Group based in France. Eurovia, a global leader in road and rail infrastructure construction, operates in 16 countries and employs over 43,000 people. Carmacks takes pride in being part of this robust organization.

Despite its evolution, Carmacks remains steadfast in its commitment to integrity, collaboration, and successful contract execution. As Alberta and Western Canada present new opportunities, Carmacks continues to grow and prosper within the industry.
